Rubicon Coaching
Taking you to the next level

To "cross the Rubicon" is an idiomatic expression that refers to making a crucial and irrevocable decision or taking a decisive action that commits someone to a particular course of action. It originated from a historical event when Julius Caesar, a Roman general, crossed the Rubicon River in 49 BC with his army, defying the Roman Senate's orders not to bring armed forces into Rome. This act marked the point of no return, as it initiated a civil war and ultimately led to Caesar's rise to power in ancient Rome. The phrase "crossing the Rubicon" for Rubicon Coaching means going where you haven't gone before and going to where you want to go without looking back.

If you're ready to be, do and have everything you want in business and life, Rubicon Coaching can help you.

Name the Non-Negotiable

In the mortgage business, your values are tested far more often in small moments than in big, dramatic ones. Rate conversations, deadline pressure, difficult clients, referral expectations, compliance boundaries, these situations quietly reveal what truly matters to you. When your values stay vague or theoretical, they’re usually the first thing to get compromised under stress.

Naming your non-negotiables brings your values out of abstraction and into practice. These aren’t slogans or mission statements. They’re the internal standards that guide how you communicate, how you structure deals, and how you show up when no one is watching. Without that foundation, decisions get harder, second-guessing increases, and pressure starts driving behavior instead of principle.

When your values are clear, the job becomes simpler. Each decision can run through one basic filter: Does this support or undermine what I said was important? If it undermines it—cutting corners, overselling certainty, rushing a client, or avoiding a hard conversation—the answer becomes obvious. Clarity reduces overthinking and replaces it with confidence.

You don’t need to overhaul your business or rewrite your processes today. Just honor one value today. Let it guide a single decision—how you explain a rate, how you handle a tough underwriting condition, how you respond to a frustrated borrower, or how you treat a referral partner. Practicing your values in real time trains your brain to see them as a way of operating, not just ideas you agree with.

Today, write down one value you are unwilling to trade. Choose one decision, however small—where that value will lead. Maybe it’s patience, honesty, service, or kindness. Notice how it feels to act in alignment with who you are at your core. Over time, those moments compound into a reputation you don’t have to manage—because it manages itself.
